About Yankee Photographic Society

Yankee is a diverse group of New England photo enthusiasts who meet twice a year for photographic exchange of ideas and workshops. Attendees come from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New York. The seminars are scheduled in the spring: usually in March or April, and also in the fall, either in November or December.

Programs may include guest speakers, model  and child portraiture, slide, print, and digital mini salons,  The Greater Lynn International, and setups such as glassware, still life, blacklight, mylar, and pet photography. Registrants are encouraged to bring their camera, lens, and film or digital media to photograph the setups.

Yankee membership is $8 for a single membership or $12 for a two-person joint household membership. You will receive a reduced registration fee to the fall seminar  2007 and the spring seminar 2008 and also  the "Yankee Crier", a bi-annual 15-20 page publication.  The seminar registration cost is kept as low as possible. A group of about 50-60 volunteers help run the popular programs. Even the lunch buffet is a real bargain at $6.00 per person.

Please see the seminar schedule, porfolio-hi-jinx-portraitsregistration, and directions for further information.

PRESENTS AN ALL DAY PHOTO SEMINAR
#1  DIGITAL MANIPULATION IN NATURE
By Daniel Charbonnet, FPSA, MNEC of Westwood, MA
This presentation will teach and discuss “nature” in this new digital world.  Learn what are allowable digital image modifications and what are ethically non-allowable modifications in your nature images for nature exhibition, competitions and presentations.  Also explained will be the clues judges should and will consider in order to spot illegal manipulations.
Dan Charbonnet is an accomplished photographer who has been awarded the honors of “Fellowship” in the Photographic Society of America and “Member” in the New England Camera Club Council.
An excellent judge and commentator in all aspects of photography, be it slides, prints or digital, he has judged throughout New England and for numerous color and nature international exhibitions.  Dan is also known for his unique Hi-Jinx setups in glassware, blacklight and mylar which he has presented in workshops at Yankee, NECCC and PSA conferences.
A member of several camera clubs including Stonybrook and Greater Lynn, he is past chairman of the Yankee Photographic Society and the Massachusetts Camera Naturalists and is the current chairman of PSA’s Nature Division.

#2  DIGITAL, SLIDE AND PRINT PORTFOLIO COMPETITION
Back by popular demand, this cash competition is designed to give attendees an opportunity to show the quality and diversity of their work with the possibility of winning cash prizes and an attractive “Best of Show” award plaque.
Attendees are invited to submit three slides, digital images and/or prints that represent their photographic talents with an emphasis on photographic quality and diversity of subject matter and technique. All three images submitted, whether slides, digital or prints, will be seen and voted on by the judges as a set of three.
The judging will serve as an entertaining and inspiring session for those participating or anyone wishing to see what their fellow attendees are doing with their photography.
Slides and digital images will be judged and seen on three screens, and prints will be judged and seen side by side on a lighted print rack.  A panel of three judges will score each set with 1-5 points individually, with a total highest score of 15 points available per set.
Judges will be Jacob Mosser, FPSA, HonNEC, John Fuller, FPSA, MNEC and Karl Schanz, MNEC.  All are diversified photographers and competitors who have judged throughout New England.
Prizes awarded will be an award plaque and $150 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 for third place in each section.  Two honor awards will receive free admission to the Spring Potpourri of Photography in each section.
For the digital section, entries must originate as photographs (image/captures of objects via light sensitivity) made by the entrant on photographic emulsion or acquired digitally.  By virtue of submitting an entry, the entrant certifies the work as his/her own.  Images in the Open category may be altered, either electronically or otherwise, by the maker and artwork or computer graphics created by the entrant may be incorporated if the photographic content predominates.  Nature and photojournalism images may not be altered.  All final work must be in electronic file. The rules and instructions will be posted shortly.  Pre-registration for the digital section competition is required.
Most Important:  You may enter all three competitions with three slides, three digital images, and three prints.  However, you must have nine different images.  You may not enter the same image twice in different sections.   An entry will be disqualified at time of judging if a repetitive image is used for more than one section.  Judging will be in the main auditorium for all sections.
Score cards for the slides and digital images can be picked up at the slide submission table between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m.  You may pick up your prints and score cards between 2:30 and 3:00 pm at the print submission table.  Awards will be given to the winners at 3:00 p.m. in the Auditorium.

#3  32nd GREATER LYNN INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION
by Barbara Rozavsky, MNEC, of Swampscott, MA.  and
By Daniel Charbonnet,  FPSA, MNEC of Westwood, MA
This year’s grand finale of the day will be a combined show of the accepted slides and digital images of the 2008 Greater Lynn Photographic Association Annual Exhibition.  The slide portion of the show will be put together as usual in a multi-image, three projector program with appropriate music by Barbara Rozavsky, MNEC.  The digital portion of the presentation will also be a multi-image program with appropriate music put together by Daniel Charbonnet, FPSA, MNEC.  The best slides and digital images from all over the world will be presented as our grand finale of the day.
Barbara holds a masters degree in Instructional Media (Audio-Visual).  She is the president of the Greater Lynn Photographic Association, an officer of the New England Camera Club Council, and is our current Chairman of the Yankee Photographic Society.
Daniel Charbonnet is a member of Greater Lynn and the Stony Brook Camera Club where he has held many offices. Current chairman of PSA’s Nature Division, he is also a past chairman of Yankee.  A multi star exhibitor and judge, he is also the section chairman of PSA’s Digital Nature International Exhibition.

Remember, not only must your work have photography quality, but most importantly it must have diversity of subject matter.  Awards will be given to the best set of three.  Examples:  portrait, landscape, nature, or photojournalism, photo-travel and nature.
Give it a try and see if you are the best all-around photographer at Yankee!
